Ilkeston u3a is part of a National Movement

u3a is a UK-wide collection of 1000+ charities that provide the opportunity for those no longer in work to come together and learn for fun.

Each local u3a is run independently by and for its members, including Ilkeston u3a. Some u3as are registered charities as is Ilkeston u3a. All u3as share the same values and operate in similar ways, but are unique in their own way. Local u3as are affiliated to the Third Age Trust, also known as the national u3a. The national u3a offers the movement many support services, including umbrella insurance and licenses, information and guidance.

Local u3as

Ilkeston u3a has ‘cluster and reciprocal’ agreements with four local u3as; Beeston; Derby; Long Eaton; and Stapleford. This means that, as a member of Ilkeston u3a, you can attend up to three Interest Groups at each of these u3as without needing to pay an additional membership fee. Individual interest group expenses may still apply, of course, and you may be required to complete an application form.

Check out their websites and see if you want to extend your activities even further!

Derbyshire u3a Network

Ilkeston u3a is a member of the Derbyshire u3a Network. The Network website has links to more local u3as and also a potted history of the u3a movement.
